Q: Where can I find a Fuse Box Diagram for a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT?
I have a major problem. My head light in my 1998 ford ranger are not working. I have done almost everything that I could do. I have lost my owners manual. I have been looking online for a fuse Diagram anmd I can't seem to find one. Can someone please help me? I have basically given up.

A: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WOWRAN/~MUS~LEN/41/98ranog1e.pdf Look on page 96 for the diagram. You can also print it out. It is in Adobe format, in a pdf file good luck

Q: What would make my 1998 Ford Ranger’s motor cool down while running?
My 1998 Ford Ranger’s (4 cylinder) heater is stuck on high heat. Every now and then I will be traveling down the road and notice that the heater is not putting out any heat. Then I look at the temperature gauge and it will be dropping. It will go all the way to cold. I know of things that will make a motor over heat, but not cool down. Anyone know what is going on?

A: A stuck thermostat won't cool a engine that quick... I'd go with Ford man with a low level of water, or you have a air bubble from improper cooling system work.... If you don't burp the air from the system it will cause weird issues like you describe. But usually it will overheat then go back normal than what you describe

Q: My 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 will not engage any ideas to what is wrong?
I have been having problems with my 4x4 on my 1998 Ford Ranger. It seems sometimes it will work and other times it will not. When it is not working both the 4x4 high and low lights on the dash flash on and off about 8 times and continue to do so about every 10 minutes while driving. This has happened before then just started working fine for quite some time and has recently gone bad again. Any ideas as to what the problem is?? Thanks in advance.

A: The electric motor on the back of the transfer case has sensors built into it. If you look at it you'll see it is an aluminum body with a plastic cover. The reason the lights on the dash are flashing is because the module doesn't know what position it is in because those sensors in there are corroded. The module doesn't look at hubs don't take apart. Get a motor and plug in befor putting on and see what happens. Ford had a lot of problems with this, getting a used one won't help you for long. New one is updated.

Q: Do any cars/trucks have the same lock tumbler as a 1998 Ford Ranger?
I'm looking for a lock tumbler for a 1998 Ford Ranger, and was wondering if any other cars have the same tumbler, so I can get one.

A: ford used that lock assembly in many of it's products of the vintage, the mazda is the same as well as the explorer

Q: Why won't my 1998 Ford Ranger go in reverse?
I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 and recently the truck stopped going in reverse. All the forward gears are functioning with precision, but when I shift in to reverse it feels exactly like neutral. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Or any solutions? hopefully besides replacing the entire tranny.

A: I would say it sounds like your shift linkage, on a 98 ranger this should be easy to check. Lay under your truck and have someone sit inside and go through the gears and make sure it is functioning properly.

Q: What speakers fit the back of a 1998 Ford Ranger?
I plan on getting a sound system to put in my Ranger, I know the front doors take 6x8/5x7's but I'm not sure what the back seat speakers take.

A: Most Fords from that year used 5x7's in the rear. The only time they went up to 6x8's was if it was a "luxury" model vehicle. You most likely have 5x7's all the way around. Some websites you can check on is sounddomain.com, and crutchfield.com. Depending on how much of a system you are planning, I wouldn't even worry about the rear speakers. How often do people ride back there? The biggest question to ask yourself is how many people will be riding back there once you get the system in? In my car, I have the rear speakers on an amp but turned all the down because I like for the sound to come from in front of me instead of behind me. It works well for staging in competitions.

Q: How many speakers does a 1998 Ford Ranger have?
It is a regular cab. 2 seater. Short bed XLT body style. 4cly 2.5 liter....Also can any sub woofers fit anywhere on the car? And how much does it run for? For the best sound and quality.

A: Probably 4 little ones. That's what my '78 El Camino has. I just got a new sound system put in it and it sounds great. I went with Pioneer speakers and an Alpine deck. The sound quality in small trucks is really good since the compact cab is such a concentrated area. You might be able to fit a sub woofer behind the seats. As far as price, I'd go to the nearest Best Buy and have them help you out and advise you on which direction to take. That's where I had my speakers/deck installed and they were very reasonable. I think the whole thing cost about $400 (parts and installation).

Q: What does the heater control valve look like on a 1998 Ford Ranger?
I know it is near the fire wall and vacuum operated but what exactly does it look like? Where can I find a picture of this item?

A: IT is a vale in line with the heater hose that goes into the fire wall it may be manually operated or electric solenoid or like you said vacuum operated

Q: How do you remove a spedometer cable from the transmission casing of a 1998 Ford Ranger? (manual trans)?
I am replacing the clutch and need to completely remove the transmission. I am not sure how to remove the speedometer cable from the transmission housing. There is an access panel that allows access to a nut that i think holds the speedometer cable on, but it is extremely hard to reach. Does this require a special tool? Must the cable be removed to remove the transmission? (There is slack in the line, but looks like it must be removed first). Also, there is a "slot" in the transmission housing next to the access panel. I am not sure what this slot is for. Any advice would help!

A: There's a white round plastic washer, you need to push it in the slave cylinder all around good, then pull out the clutch slave cylinder line

Q: where can i get a diagram of the fuse box under the hood of a 1998 ford ranger xlt?
i have lost the owners manual to my truck and i am having difficulties locating the problems to my headlights. they are not working. so i need all the fuse diagrams in the truck and under the hood and the description of each fuse.... if you could help me i would be so greatful!

A: It should be stamped on the fuse block as to the amps and use of each fuse. If not just get a Chiltons manual at any major autoparts store for your truck.

Q: Can anyone help me find a source for the diagram, design and measurements of 1998 ford ranger chassis diagram?
I specifically need just the rear half of my chassis. It has rusted and broken right where the bed meets the cab. So, I really could use the drawing and measurements of the raw chassis with locations of exact holes for the spring brackets and etc. Ford Ranger, VIN 1FTYR14CGWPA12088. Thanx a million!

A: I can give you the measurements for it but The vin # you gave is not right ? What is it ? 2wd , 4wd , long box , short box, ext. cab? let me know I will fax them to you .

Q: How do I clean the coolant reservoir in my 1998 Ford Ranger?

A: take it out of the truck and clean it out with soapy dish water and a long handled brush.

Q: 1998 ford ranger 4x4 xlt extended cab sorta lunges when put in gear. Is this due to 4x4 or is something wrong?
When you put it in drive it sorta lunges. It's almost like a U joint is sloppy but I checked that and it was tight. This is a new to me vehicle so I'm not sure if this is normal due to the transfer case or what's up. Any suggestions? I also checked the drive shaft going into the transmission and that seemed tight w/o any slop. The vehicle is an automatic. Thanks a BUNCH!! It also does it when you come to a stop. This vehicle is new to me and I wasn't sure if this was just something to do with it being a 4x4. Everything seemed tight (driveshaft to transmission, ujoints, transfer case etc) the vehicle is an automatic. Thanks so much for reading and answering!! I have checked to make sure that it is out of four wheel drive mode. I even drove it backerds..the whole shebang.

A: i own a repair shop, and i think its kicking its self in to neutral when you stop, this is caused by the transmission fluid being dirty on it,or the valve body sticking on it,, i do this all the time and yours is not the only one that has ever done it,after all of the rangers get a few miles on them they want to do this a little bit,id have the fluid and filter changed on it,and tell them about the problem, and they can clean the valve body out on it while they got it down, good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Q: my dad has a 1998 ford ranger (5 speed) and has had 6 sensors replaced and cant get the check engine light?
to go off and the mechanic cant seem to figure it out .does anyone know anything to help?

A: Typical... Find a new mechanic. Seems he's looking to throw parts at your car instead of diagnosing it. FACT IS: The majority of check engine light issues are codes thrown for O2, and MAF sensors etc. But the sensor itself is not always the issue. Usually wiring problems between the sensor harness and the PCM/ECU. EXAMPLE: Just because a light bulb doesn't light up, does not mean the bulb is bad... sometimes you need to make sure the lamp is actually plugged in. Tell your dad to find a new mechanic... have the issue diagnosed properly. - Good Luck!

Q: How much would it cost to paint a 1998 Ford Ranger?

A: How much do you want to spend, $300.00 for a cheap job or $2500.00 for something to be proud of, you decide.
