Q: What performance parts do I need to improve fuel economy on my '06 GMC Sierra 5.3L?

A: performance parts will NEVER improve fuel economy. by the very nature of performance parts, it will improve performance-accel, torque, speed, etc. most cars are already engineered to get the most fuel economy. usually tinkering with an engine will hurt the fuel economy. Popular Mechanics did a story a few months back, and most engines burn something like 99% of the fuel. the only thing you can do is drive easier.

Q: Repaired rear brakes on 95 GMC C1500 Sierra and cant get autobrake adjust right. Anybody have a diagram/pix?
Brakes work fine, but the auto adjust for the rear brakes is not working. I'm sure I haven't put it back together correctly, but all parts are there. If anybody has a picture or diagram of what it should look like when on the wheel, I'd appreciate it. 1993 C1500 GMC Sierra pickut with 6 cylinder.

A: http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/08/83/55/0900823d80088355/repairInfoPages.htm Click on pictures/diagrams to enlarge. Make sure that spring (part #18 in this diagram) isn't interfering with the star wheel, and that spring # 16 isn't too weak. Part # 10 should be seated in the hole where it pivots, and part # 11 should be hooked to the upper end of # 10. Make sure you didn't jam star wheel too tight when you turned the screw in, and make sure it's well lubricated on both the threads, and the cap on the other end. Q: Cost to have transmission oil and filter changed in a 1994 gmc sierra 1500 with the 4l60e trans???
It has been slipping quit a bit when accelerating so I think its about time to have a flush and filter change. What is the average to have it done at a shop??And if I decided to do it myself how much for the parts and how difficult would it be?? also it is 4x4 if that makes a difference...

A: Chances are that a fluid and filter change will not help if your slipping. That is a sign of a trans thats going bad. You can still try it at home. I do my car at the house every year. The prices are all different for different transmissions. If you do try it yourself, do NOT overtighten the bolts. They will strip out easily. It's just a matter of a big enough pan to catch the old fluid. Drop the pan, scrap all traces of old gasket from the pan and transmission. Remove filter, some just pull out some are secured by screws. I believe yours pulls right out. Replace with new filter, slap the gasket up on the pan and tighten the bolts to specified torque. Gasket sealer is not needed.

Q: How do you program a keyless entry remote for a '05 GMC Sierra?
The part number on the back is 15186203.

A: You need a scan tool. They have them at the dealerships. It usually runs about $40 to have one programmed.

Q: Why do the brakes on my 96 GMC Sierra p/u momemtarily pull left when applied?
Pulls left at first then straightens itself. The more intense the braking the harder the pull. Always straightens itself back out. Is this a proportioning valve, collapsed right side brake hose, stuck right side caliper or something else? How do I diagnos with out just randomly replacing parts in hopes of solving the problem?

A: Most likely a bad brake hose on a gm truck.

Q: 1999 GMC Sierra how to remove passenger bed panel??
I ran into a pole in my 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 Z-71, and when I went to the body shop, they said it would cost $2200 to fix. I found the whole new panel at AutoPartsTrain for $550, and they guarantee quality and fit. My question is, how do you change out just that passenger panel on the bed?? Is it welded on to the rest of the bed or can the parts be seperated? The parts place sells just that side panel so I'm assuming that it's not that hard to change. Does anyone know??

A: as far as i can remember, most truck bed panels have a series of spot welds all around the the panel. in order to remove the panel you will have to drill out all of these spot welds. then take a narrow tip flat chisel to seperate it from the inner frame structure. after that grind down all of the weld spots and flatten back out where you seperated the panels from. get your new panel and make sure that it lines up properly. take several clamps and clamp it on tight. then with a mig or tig welder start welding the panel back in at all the same spots. it is a time consuming job, but if you pay attention and take your time doing it, its not that hard of a job.

Q: 1978 GMC Sierra Grande?
I have recently acquired a 1978 Gmc Sierra Grande and I need to find parts for it. Parts means the cab, the bed the hood etc. I would also like to have as much info about them as possible. When we had a 68 impala a while back there was a site strictly for them. If you know anything like this please let me know.

A: I own a shop, and do a lot of restoration work. The site you want is www.chevyduty.com/ You should be able to get what you need from them. Glad to help out, good luck!!!

Q: 2003 GMC Sierra grease points?
Does anyone know where the grease points are on a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0L. The greaseing is part of routine service along with an oil change.

A: I own a shop, and it is amazing at the vehicles that doesn't have grease (Zerk) fittings anymore. It used to be we greased the complete front end (ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link, Pittman arm, and Idler arm) and the drive shaft/shafts, but now days there are no fittings to grease, unless you go purchase a pack of them, and install them yourself. I guess we are living in a world of throw away vehicles now. When a part wears out, the replacement part has a fitting. Matter of fact; there aren't even a hole for a fitting to be installed in, so you would have to drill & tap threads in it to install them. The manufactures sure have cut cost at our expense, but they all are this way now. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
