Q: How do I install a starter for a 2000 toyota tacoma 2.4L?
I'm not a mechanic and would like to replace the starter on my truck. I have no previous mechanical experience, but after looking around on the internet, I feel confident this is a job I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A: Look at the old one... figure out how many bolts hold it in. Figure out how many electrical connections need to be removed....
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST!!
Then take off the electrical connections and the bolts. Reverse order with new starter.
Q: Do you have to remove the engine to change a timing belt on a 2000 toyota tacoma?
I was told that Tocoma timing belts had to be changed around 90k before they broke, damaging the engine. Is this even true? And how much trouble is it to do it yourself given mechanic experience?
A: DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF. Seriously, I think your Tocoma should have the 3.4 liter V6, which I have in my 2002 4Runner. Its a big production to do it. I had it done at the dealer. Good plan, right? Guess what - After driving about 150 miles, it fell off! They didn't tighten the crank shaft properly (those were the words of the mechanic I took it too near where it died, as well as the dealer, after they checked it out). Well, too bad for the dealer, they had to come pick it up (140 miles door to door each way for them) and then they did have to yank the engine out to fix the mess.
Its an expensive service at the dealer (about $500, if I remember correctly), but you can probably get your local mechanic to do it for less.
Q: how much is it to get a spare key for my 2000 toyota tacoma?
is there anywhere else i can buy the key besides the dealer.
does this type of key comes with a chip?
A: look at the key if it has a small black square sticking out from it along the side then it has a chip in it and the only place to get them is from the dealer cause the chip has to be programmed to your car and will cost around 80-100 dollars usually if not then you can get copies of your key almost anywhere and will probably cost 5 or 6 dollars at the most
Q: where can I get an air ride for a 2000 Toyota Tacoma 4x4?
I just need somthing to give me some more lift to be able to carry a rick of fire wood.
A: JC Whitney...? That's who my husband uses...;)
Q: Where can I find a used camper shell for my 2000 Toyota Tacoma truck std cab short bed?
I don't have a lot of money that is why I prefer used. My truck is dark green. Are there any good websites out there that sells used camper shell?
A: you could always look on ebay for one really cheep take my advice cheep @ www.ebay.co.uk but you need to sign up to be a member
Q: How much should I expect to spend on a 100000 service on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma?
A: 100000 service is a tire rotation/oil change. 30k, 60k,90k,120 are major services($400-500 at the dealer). every 15 is an "intermediate"service(200-300 at the dealer). Have you ever changed the timing belt? If not, do it now. Change the water pump at the same time, need it or not. Its a little more money now, but saves going back to do it again later.

Q: How to change spark plugs on a 2000 toyota Tacoma?
A: v6,3.4 ltr.
start with a cold engine.remove air tube between air box and throttle body.unplug and unbolt the coil packs.pull them directly up.a little twist back and forth may be needed.do not twist to hard.an extention 6-11'' will be needed.remove plugs.
on driver side, remove the wires,a twist may be neccasary.using an exteniton remove plugs.5/8 sparkplug socket needed.they or at least one ,back,is harder to get to but possible.dont pull on the wire itself.use some anti-sieze on the threads going back together.two different metals causes electrolosis.or simply it will sieze the plug in place.do not over tighten the plugs.
4 cyl.2.4/2.7
remove wires.you will have to finagle the wires around but you do not have to remove breather hose.just be carefull do not pull on wires or you will be buying a new set.extention,socket,anti-sieze.needed.
timing is computer controlled,no since checking or trying to reset it.if there is a prob with timing it is in the chain or timing belt,v6.
Q: How do I adjust the parking brake on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner? It failed inspection b/c it doesn't hold
A: Eric is definitely on the right track. You don't want to adjust the e-brake until you know the shoes are adjusted correctly. When you insert the screw driver into the backing plate, rotate the "gear", or star wheel, so that the side closest to you goes up. In other words, stick the tip of the screw driver under the bottom edge of the wheel and lever it upwards. Do that to both sides. You should raise the truck to do it so that you can gauge how tight you get them. Be sure to put it on stands or something safe. Or, if more convenient, you can pull the wheels, and the drums and turn the gear until you can just barely get the drum back on. That will be close enough to hold well.
Hope this helps. godBless!
